The Bluebirds Theatre Company brings you a tale of magic and mystery. Using Mozart’s awesome music from The Magic Flute, The Bluebirds Theatre Company will entrance young folk and their families with a story of monsters, heroes and heroines. This is a story-telling version of the tale suitable for a young audience. But older folks will love the music too!
Come and join Prince Tamino and the bird-catcher, Papageno, in their quest to rescue Pamina on this fantastical journey at The Popera House!
The Bluebirds are in the unique position of having their very own theatre. Thanks to funding from Arts Council England, they were able to design and construct Somerset’s first dedicated opera house. Called The Popera House, it is designed to look like a gypsy caravan and has a flip out stage, integrated light and sound system and, best of all, is fully off grid. Also, thanks to funding from Somerset Council, the ‘Bluebirds‘ were able to install solar panels on the wagon which helps to decrease their carbon footprint and perform shows harnessing the power of natural energy.
Their mission is to bring a little bit of magic directly to the audience every time the Popera House goes out. Behind the doors of this beautifully gilded wagon is a feast of theatre and music. And every visit is unique.
The Popera House was launched officially in Spring 2020 with a calendar of events. Since then they have visited primary schools, secondary schools and small festivals with our shows in the wagon. The have also been doing music and theatre workshops alongside The Popera House visits to get audiences really involved in the show.
The theatre space is versatile and unique and can host an array of theatrical and musical events. However, as the title suggests, the wagon is also intended to be able offer a combo of Pop Up Opera and Pop-Opera neatly taking on the behemoths of big time opera and modern time pop. And they have created a neat little formula in their own very beautiful Popera House.
The Bluebirds Theatre Company
The Bluebirds Theatre Company is professional Music Theatre company based in Somerset and London. They specialise in creating new and innovative work. They develop theatre shows that include music and music shows that include theatre: This ranges from full operas, family shows and musicals to shorter cabaret shows and solo classical concert performances. What’s important to them is that they create a unique and invigorating theatre experience for everyone. They run seasons of shows, but are also available for commissioned work and private bookings.
